Lorica

Lorica - St Patrick's breastplate, an ancient Celtic prayer of protection.

I bind unto myself today
The strong name of theTrinity
By invocation of the Same
The Three In One and One In Three
As rocks are strong as fire is warm
So may our Faith in Christ be firm.
As wind is fresh as snow is pure
So may my faith in Christ be sure
Beside me.

Christ be beside me
Christ before me
Christ be behind me
Christ within me
Christ be above me
Christ to win me
In hearts that love me.

I bind unto myself today.
The power of God to lead the way
God's eye to watch the path I take
God's ear to listen when I pray.
God's wisdom now to teach me love.
And hand to guide and shield to ward
The word of God to give me speech
And angel hosts to be my guard
Beside me.

Christ be beside me
Christ in the quiet.
Christ in the danger
Christ on my right side
Christ on my left side.
Christ in the mouth of
A friend or stranger.

I bind unto myself today.
The strong name of the Trinity
By invocation of the Same
The Three In One and One In Three
Against the apathy inside.
The selfishness, the hate, the pride.
Hostility from evil powers
In every place in every hour
Protect me.
